CagriSema
Investigational; under FDA review, decision expected around late 2026
In simple words: An experimental weekly combination of two medicines: semaglutide (GLP-1) and cagrilintide (an amylin-like hormone).
How it works
Amylin and GLP-1 both signal fullness, but through different pathways, so combining them aims for bigger appetite reduction.
Targets: Amylin / calcitonin receptors, GLP-1 receptor · Class: Fixed combination: cagrilintide (amylin analogue) + semaglutide
Uses, latest studies & pairings
Typically used for
- Obesity and overweight.
- Type 2 diabetes with obesity.
Commonly paired with
- It is itself a pairing: semaglutide (GLP-1) plus cagrilintide (amylin) in one weekly shot.
- Strength training and enough protein (about 1.2–1.6 g per kg of body weight a day, unless your doctor says otherwise) to protect muscle while losing weight.
- Because it contains semaglutide, it carries the GLP-1 thyroid caution (MTC and MEN 2).

What the research shows
Human clinical evidence
Human- Phase 3 trials (REDEFINE program) reported average weight loss of roughly 20% or more after about 68 weeks.
Animal and lab results suggest what might happen; they don't prove an effect in people.
Safety & what to watch
- Side effects resembled those of GLP-1 medicines, mainly gastrointestinal.
- Investigational; filed with the FDA in December 2025, with a decision expected around late 2026.
